When it comes to providing assistance and compassion to those who need it most, NIC graduates are there, ready to support their communities and inspire positive change.

From animal care to human services, NIC graduates learn how to effectively communicate and assist those in need. Through supportive discussion groups, lectures, field trips and workplace practicums, you’ll gain the personal confidence, professional knowledge, and compassionate skills you’ll require to support individuals and communities.

There's such a huge need for ECCE practitioners, most of my classmates stepped straight into jobs after graduating. I decided to further my education in Child and Youth Care, and the program gave me a great knowledge base to take with me to UVic.

Children Teaching
Teachers (CTT)

With Children Teaching Teachers, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) students participate in an innovative learning experience. Students design and set up a children’s classroom space at the Beaufort Children’s Centre and lead a stimulating preschool program. After observing the class, students and staff provide feedback, and develop stronger plans for the next day’s class. With immediate assessment, CTT gives students a valuable opportunity to learn about their career and themselves.

Great Speakers at NIC

Throughout the year, engaging guest speakers from many agencies visit NIC to share their stories with students. Whether you’re learning about the Ministry of Housing and Social Development, the John Howard Society, AIDS Vancouver Island, or Waichay Friendship Centre, you’ll discover the services they offer, the qualities needed for the job, and the work opportunities they provide.

Education Assistant

As a Human Services Worker student in the Education Assistant program, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a practicum with local school districts. With the hands-on experience and knowledge you gain from working in the classroom, you’ll be prepared for a rewarding, and in-demand, career.
