As an NIC graduate, you are welcome to access all of the services of the Employment Resource Centre (ERC) offered at the Comox Valley and Campbell River campuses. The ERC offers a variety of employment-related services such as individual coaching with your job search, resume and interview tips, as well as job postings that come through from employers.

The centre will be closed in Campbell River and the Comox Valley from July 5 to 23, and will
reopen on July 24.

Learn the techniques and skills to perform quality hair, skin and nail care through North Island College's new Cosmetology programs. Take the Nail Technician, Esthetics, or Hairdressing programs and learn the skills you need to work in a busy salon.

NIC students learn professional, industry-recognized skills in hands-on realistic settings. Students will be qualified to earn the Cosmetology Industry Association of BC Certificate and qualification in their chosen specialty.

Unlock your potential as a Career Development professional in as little as eight months.
North Island College, in partnership with Concordia University College of Alberta, is offering a certificate in Career Development at NIC this fall.
The program teaches students how to help others plan their careers, find the right school or training program, and navigate their way through career transitions.
Courses include Career Counseling, Workshop Facilitation, and Work Search skills to get you started in your new profession as a career advisor.
Students interested in program certification must register and pay in full by Sept. 13. 
To register, students must submit an Application for Admission form. Additional requirements apply.

Are you looking to advance your photography skills beyond simple “point and shoot” cameras? Do you already use a Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera, but want to improve your technique and create truly unique photographs?

Join working professional photographers for lectures and hands-on workshops that explore the latest technology, tips, and tricks.

Whether you're a beginner or long-time hobbyist, NIC courses are aimed at maximizing your skills. Courses are offered during the evenings and weekends throughout the year on the Comox Valley campus. For course details, schedules and more see the Photography feature page.

Where: Port Hardy Campus

Recognize hazards in your home, prevent accidents, and learn how to make your home safer for children  up to 8 years old.  Designed for parents and caregivers, the provincially recognized course focuses on common first aid situations, including respiratory distress, CPR, AED, and how to control bleeding.

Learn more about NIC's Animal Care Aide program at this free Information session, held from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at the Comox Valley and Campbell River campuses, on Aug. 18 and 19 respectively..
Graduates of NIC’s Animal Care Aide Certificate program possess the practical skills and knowledge needed for employment in veterinary hospitals, animal shelters, kennels, and more.   If you’re looking for a rewarding career working with animals, or simply wish to increase your care-giving skills for your own pets or livestock, this part-time certificate program may be right for you.
To find out if the Animal Care Aide certificate program will meet your needs, attend this free information session, which is a prerequisite to being accepted into the program. You’ll have the opportunity to meet the instructor and learn more about the Animal Care Aide certificate program, and discover the opportunities that exist for those interested in a career in animal welfare.
The Comox Valley session is repeated on Sept. 8, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at the Comox Valley campus.

Starting college or university this fall?  University Boot Camp is for you!

This popular course aims to get you  the grades you want, with far less effort.  Learn how to manage stress and balance work, fun and family in just 12 hours.

You'll also learn how recognize your learning style to use your time more effectively. Make sure your papers are on time, take better notes before you get to university, and ensure you have the study time you need to get the best grades possible this year.

Starting this fall, take 1, 2 or all 3 of the Love & Sex courses and earn up to nine transferable credits!  Take three courses and discover related themes and questions. Each of these courses transfer to other Post Secondary Institutions in BC. Plus, you can take advantage of the Film and Speakers Series offered through Continuing Education to see films and hear guest speakers.

Examine how narratives shape our ideas about love and sexuality.

Start the new year right with NIC's annual Orientation Day for new and returning students.

  • Take a campus tour
  • Attend your program orientation
  • Meet your instructors and fellow students
  • Go to a student success seminar
  • Get to know your Student Union
  • Enjoy a free BBQ
  • Get your picture taken for your NIC student card 

Activities run from 9 am to 4 pm at all three campuses.

What:    ElderCollege Information Session

Check out ElderCollege at three information forums for upcoming semesters at the Campbell River, Comox Valley and Port Alberni campuses. Learn about ElderCollege, how it works, and which courses are right for you.

You must be a member of ElderCollege to register. Memberships are $10 per year and are valid from September 1 to August 31. Fees may be paid now or when registering in September.
 
ElderCollege is open to anyone aged 50+ (55+ in the Comox Valley) looking to learn new things in a unique adult environment. Take courses with no exams, no grades and no pressure. How fun is that?

Port Alberni residents can take a campus tour, enter a draw for a course tuition gift certificate, and enjoy refreshments and snacks while learning more about upcoming courses. An Information session on the computer lab starts at 1:30 pm.

October

What:   Organic Gardening Information Session

Gardening in October? Of course! There's no better time to learn more about the Organic Master Gardener course in Port Alberni.

Bring your questions to a free information session on Oct. 2 on NIC's Organic Master Gardener  course, where students learn to create fabulous food and ornamental gardens without pesticides and other harmful chemicals.

The course allows students to become a SOUL Organic Master Gardener, share their knowledge and gain essential skills to start or enhance an organic lawn care business.  It runs Oct. 13 to Dec. 4.
